Otto passed away peacefully in his 90th year in the early morning of March 1, 2021 after a short stay at Etobicoke General Hospital. Beloved and caring husband of 63 years, to Marianne. Beloved father to his daughters Benita Hayes (Peter) and Kristina Hrabovsky (Glenn). Cherished opa to Nicole, Kellyann, Christopher and Patrick. Doting great-opa to Patrick, Riley, Logan, Sophia, Jaxon, Owen and Kayden. Fondly remembered by his sister Inge, in Bokeloh, Germany, and by his special niece Tanja Karwel. Otto will be greatly missed by his brothers and sisters-in-laws, many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. He is predeceased by 6 siblings.

Otto was born in Bromberg, Germany on May 20, 1931. After WW2 he became a “displaced person” and eventually immigrated to Montreal in 1957. His fiancé, Marianne (Behrendt) joined him in 1958 and they were married in Montreal on July 24 of that year. They loved their young newlywed life together in Montreal and Ottawa. They moved to Toronto when Kodak was looking for Millwrights in 1964. This was a chance for a full time job and Otto had a wonderful 28 year career with Kodak. He had been trained as a blacksmith and never lost his love of metal art. He also remained a true lover of nature and gentle soul who loved his long walks along the Humber with various family dogs.

Cremation has taken place, arrangements entrusted to Ward Funeral Home “Weston Chapel”. A private family ceremony will be planned for this summer. Memorial donations in his name can be made to the Alzheimer Society or Westpark Hospital Geriatrics Services.
