VALENCICH, Onorato Giovanni “Renato”
Passed away peacefully at Baycrest Hospital on December 9th 2016 after a short illness at the age of 87. He joins his beloved wife, Licia (nee:Marchetti) of 30 years. Amazing father to Nirvana (Dennis) Buligan, Yvonne (Steve) Reid and Mara (Chris) Kinnear. Cherished grandfather to Nevin (Ashley), Corina (Daniel) Lauren, Landon and Madeline. Great-grandfather, “Big Nonno” to Naomi Buligan. Renato will be dearly missed by his sister Stella (Vincenzo) D'Antimo as well as his extended family and many friends. A proud Fiuman, Renato was born in Fiume, Italy on February 7th 1929. As a founding member of the Club Giuliano Dalmato of Toronto he enjoyed many celebrations with close friends and his one true love,Licia. As a Displaced Person, Renato spent time in German Refugee Camps before coming to Canada in 1951 where he worked at various jobs in Quebec and Ontario. As a courageous entrepreneur and adventurer, Renato switched hats to become the owner of two successful businesses, Keele and Lawrence Grocery in Toronto and the Hotel Tropicana in Ubatuba Brazil. Renato will be remembered as a kind, courageous, and resilient father and loyal friend. Visitation will be held on Sunday December 18th at Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Rd. from 2-4 pm and 6-9 pm. Mass will be celebrated on Monday December 19th at 12:00pm at Transfiguration of our Lord Catholic Church, 45 Ludstone Dr. Etobicoke. Private interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of Renato can be made to your favourite charity.
