My mother Olive Flaherty passed away peacefully last night at the ripe young age of 101, just a few days after her birthday. I'm happy to say that she exited this world while listening to the soothing music of her favorite singer, Nat "King" Cole.
Of course it's a bittersweet occasion for all the members of her family, including her two sons and daughter, their partners, and her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her numerous friends, especially the fine staff of Humber Heights Retirement Home, and in particular chaplain Kirk, her spiritual advisor, and her wonderful caregivers, Bridgette, Renee, and Gift.
Mom enjoyed her last years at HH, where she found a whole new family, and was beloved by staff and residents alike. I never saw anyone who could "work a room" like she did whenever she entered the dining area and shared a song or a laugh with everyone! She will be fondly remembered by all of us, and we're sad she's gone. But we're also very thankful this Thanksgiving weekend for her long and productive life, her positive attitude, her kindness, patience, wisdom, and most importantly her wicked sense of humour, which she shared with my dad.

There are many pictures of Mom that I could post here, and some of them have appeared before on this platform. But I think this recent one of her rocking a cool pair of sunnies really captures her fashion flair and sense of fun, which definitely helped keep her young at heart for so long.
"Young at Heart" is actually a song that could have been written for Mom, but today I've chosen another one of her all-time favorites, of course by NKC. Mom is definitely "Unforgettable" in every sense of that word, and we will all keep and cherish her memory for the rest of our lives.
