It is with great sadness that the family of Nico Guglielmin announces his passing on Friday, March 8 2024, at the age of 95. He died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Nico will be lovingly remembered by Olga (Favaro), his devoted wife of 72 years, and cherished by his three children, Paul (Kathleen), Bruno (Debbie) and Carolin (Pier Paolo). Nonno Nico was an inspiration and an amazing example of strength and goodness, especially to his grandchildren, Michael (Maria), Carly (Matthew), Matthew (Jamie), Monika (David), Julia and Anne Marie. Nico dearly loved his great-grandchildren, Abigail, Charlotte, Hanna and Remy. Nico is predeceased by his parents and siblings and will be greatly missed by his nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Nico was born in San Vito Di Altivole Italy and was one of 5 children. He spent most of his childhood working on the family farm to help his parents. As a teen, he worked in the mines in Belgium, happy to send his earnings home to help the family.
Nico was introduced to the love of his life by Olga’s brother and soon after Nico decided to make the move to Canada in 1950 at the age of 21. Olga joined him two years later and they began their life together in Toronto.
Nico was always grateful for the support he received from family to help him get settled in a new country and he worked many hours doing whatever he could to plan for his family and his future. In 1965 he moved his family to Woodbridge, where they remain to this day and where they became part of a happy community of friends and neighbours on Hayhoe Avenue.
Nico co-founded Norbel Metal Services Ltd. in 1967, and his hard work and dedication to its success is to be admired. He valued his Norbel community.
He built a house in Italy and together with his wife, journeyed back and forth for many years to visit family and enjoy his homeland. He enjoyed his winters in Florida where he made many wonderful friends. He was an avid fisherman and many people would stop along the beach to admire his skill and the countless fish he would catch daily.
Nico had a knack for balancing work and rest. He loved to work in his garden and was always so proud to watch his harvest make it to Olga’s kitchen table.
Nico was an inspiration to all who knew him and our cherished memories of him will keep him in our hearts forever.
Our grief from losing him will be infinite, but Nico left behind a legacy of faith, love, generosity and commitment to family that will never be forgotten.
