Myrtle Alice Rider

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Myrtle Alice Rider on November 2, 2019. Our loving and devoted mother Myrtle was a friend to all whose lives she touched. Surrounded by her children, she left us peacefully at her residence at Sunset Manor in Collingwood Ontario. Myrtle was in her 100th year.

Born in Stratford, Ontario, she moved to Toronto as a young child and grew up in the Beaches district with her two brothers John and Gordon. Always interested in style, she worked in the millinery trade, which fueled her lifelong passion for hats and fashion.

At the end of the Second World War, she met her husband-to-be Arthur Rider who was a Flying Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. They married on June 23, 1945 and had three children, Suzanne, Jonathan and Peter. Arthur’s work took Myrtle and family to many places, including: Sherbrooke, Nobel, Brampton, Montreal, Calgary and then back to Brampton for retirement.

She was grandmother to Jennifer (Mike) and Jeffrey (Janet-Lynn), Liam and Ashleen, Derek (Stephanie) and Melanie (Luke). Great Grandmother to: Cassidy, Madeline, Eve, Isiah, Avery, Theodore and Layla. They all knew her as “Marnie”.

Myrtle loved to read and walk every day. She enjoyed oil painting, exercise classes and flower arranging. She was very organized in the kitchen, preparing meals for holidays and family gatherings with ease and everyone looked forward to her pot roasts and apple pies. Devoted to her friends, Myrtle keep in touch with many of them throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed writing letters to friends and family.

Well dressed for every occasion, she will always be remembered for how classy she looked with a butterfly cane, pearl necklace, pretty shawl and clip on earrings.

Widowed for 36 years, she is finally reunited with the love of her life, Arthur and they are holding hands together in heaven.

In Lieu of Flowers, donations to the Canadian Liver Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
