It is with great sorrow that the Carriere family announces the passing of Myrna Jean Carriere, who left this world peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, December 24th, 2022, at the age of 73, on her final trip to re-join her husband Richard (2001), and granddaughter Elizabeth (2004).
Myrna was born in Pictou County, Nova Scotia to and predeceased by parents John (1995) and Catherine MacKenzie (1999), the second child and eldest daughter of 12 children, and migrated to Toronto, Ontario at the young age of 17. She met and married the love of her life, Richard N. Carriere at 19. They faced many of life's adventures while raising two sons together, Richard and Ryan.
Known for her quick wit, marvelous strength of will and incredible kindness, Myrna loved to explore: whether through travel, life experiences or continual learning. She was an avid life-long gardener, on a forever quest to find just the right plant to be added to her front yard display or to her backyard sanctuary. Never satisfied that she had gotten it *quite* right, she was always happy with the results and willing to share the fruits of her labour with many neighbours, friends, and family.
Myrna’s biggest passion in life was children; her own, her family’s, her friends’, or those that she helped to educate and guide during her career. She spent many years working with and alongside the TDSB, originally in part-time roles such as lunchroom supervisor or before/after school programs and then eventually spending 10 years as a full-time Education Support Worker for numerous schools across Toronto. After her early retirement from the TDSB in 2012, she continued working with children at an attached daycare program for a further few years before formally retiring and focusing her full attentions towards her grandchildren, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She loved having a chat over a cup of coffee, black of course, with many friends and family. She enjoyed company and would happily while the hours away speaking on whatever topic caught your or her fancy for the day. Her kindness, laughter and the love she shared will be cherished forever.
Missed but always treasured by sons Richard (Fernanda) and Ryan (Nicole), and grandchildren Gabriella, Tomas and Morgan who she loved more than anything.
Beloved Sister of Gerald, John, Fred, Marjorie, Lloyd, Art, Bill, Audrey, Henry, Lori and the late Kathy.
The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to the staff of the Inpatient Oncology Department at Humber River Hospital for their care and compassion to Myrna during her period of illness. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, World Vision Canada or the SickKids Foundation would be appreciated by the family as an expression of sympathy.
