Hurst, Muriel Jean (nee Cockburn)
It is with great sadness that the family of Muriel Jean Cockburn Hurst announces her passing on December 24, 2014. Muriel was born in Georgina Township (Egypt, Ontario) on February 27, 1912, daughter of James Cockburn and Lucretia Kay. Muriel died peacefully at home. Muriel was the beloved wife of the late Alan Morrison Hurst (1985). Dear Mother of Jeanne Graham and Tom (deceased), Mary Dalton and David, Margaret Hurst and partner Sharon Conway. Proud Grandma of Mary Graham (Ian Smith), Hal Graham (Stacy), James Graham, Drew Dalton, (Jenn Varden) , Tricia Dalton, Alex Dalton (fiancée Virginia Noble). Adoring Great Grandmother of Emily, Charlotte, Owen, and Brady.
Muriel is survived by her loved elder sister Gladys Owen. She was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters. Muriel will be missed by her caring nieces and nephews and many dear friends who were an important part of her life.
Muriel was a dedicated teacher who taught school in Novar, Sutton, Haileybury, Malton and Etobicoke. She loved travelling and spent many winters in Grenada and Barbados having many good friends in both places. She lived on her own until the age of 98, enjoying time with her friends at both her book club and bridge club. Muriel attended Humber Valley United Church for the past 55 years.

Friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Road (North of Lawrence Ave. W.) Weston, on Friday, January 2 2015 from 2-3pm with a Memorial Service to immediately follow in the Chapel at 3 p.m.
