Monica Bruce

Monica Angela Bruce was born in San Fernando, Trinidad on August 18, 1956 to parents Tafene Bruce and Michael Fenty. She moved to Canada in March 1990 and as most immigrants, established her home away from home with the Caribbean community. Many long-lasting relationships were built at the Toronto West Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Her first employment was at Southbrook Retirement Residence and later in 2001 at Peel District School Board until her passing.

Monica was helpful and so willing to help so many of her friends, neighbors and family. She worked hard, took on difficult tasks with ease. In fact, she did construction, mason and maintenance work in Trinidad so it was no wonder that she was dubbed here as, Jane of all trades. One of her family friends shared that she was at her home, recuperating from surgery. The sounds of a lawn mower seemed to be getting closer and closer to her bedroom window. Taking a peep through her curtains, there she saw Monica, unannounced, attending to her lawn. That’s just one of countless other examples of her genuine love for humankind.

Monica loved children, there are lots of albums filled with pictures of many of the little ones that showed her love for children. She was always holding someone’s baby. She also loved taking pictures and buying the latest gadgets like cameras, lens and tablets.

Monica was diagnosed with stage 4 Lymphoma in May 2023. It was a difficult and challenging time for her but her friends and family members rallied around her then. In March, 2024, Monica was declared cancer-free. She excitedly called loved ones to share the exciting news. Special thanks to her coworkers of whom she spoke fondly, for celebrating on August 6th, an early birthday for her. Sadly, she passed away suddenly on August 12th after the cancer returned just a few weeks earlier.

She leaves behind her siblings, Cindy Fenty-Brown (Alphonso Brown), Nathalie Fenty-Bentley (Theodore Bentley) Nigel Fenty, Neil Fenty, Paul Fenty (Calandra Fenty), step mother Lynette Fenty-Otway, nieces and nephews Allan, Aidan, Chaya, Rebecca, Theodore II, Sierra, Jarrell, Nykia, Kyle, Keenan, Calandra, Amelia, Maxwell, Hazael, Aunt Milcah Telesford, Uncle Jeffrey Whitney, cousins Carlyle Telesford, Denyse Roberts, Melina Roberts (Lily Roopchan, Audri Roopchan, Roman Roopchan), Mercedes Roberts, Tarmena Roberts, Abraham Roberts, Stephanie Bruce, Owen Bruce and many relatives in Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Florida and New York.

Monica will be remembered as a loving and devoted sister, cousin, aunt and friend and will be greatly missed. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to all who have offered their support, prayers and condolences during this difficult time.

She is now at rest awaiting the second return of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.
