Mitchell "Glen" Sparks
It is with deep sorrow we share that Mitchell "Glen" Sparks, age 52, beloved father, son, brother, family member and friend passed away peacefully on February 15, 2023 at St.Michael's Hospital in Toronto, ON following a brief struggle with COPD and additional health complications.
Glen was born to Mitchell Sparks and the late Linda (nee Jackson) Sparks, on December 1, 1970 in Toronto, ON. He spent his formative years there, and later in life also spent time in Nova Scotia. After graduating from Sir Sanford Fleming High School, he held many jobs, including being a cook, an upholsterer, and a porter at the Halifax Infirmary. The simplest of pleasures in life brought great joy to Glen where he played guitar and loved to sing and make music. His pleasant personality was contagious to everyone he met and he especially loved spending time with his family and friends in Toronto, ON and in the communities of Lake Loon and Truro, NS.
In addition to his father Mitchell Sr., Glen is survived by: his greatest blessing whom he left the legacy of his love and perseverance, his wonderful son Dondre Huggins and Dondre's mother Colleen Huggins; his loving siblings: Sherry Jackson-Smith, Margo Sparks, Nathan Sparks (Rachel Bailey), and Clifford Sparks; his nephews and niece: Taejuan Sparks, Jaydan and Jaxon Smith, Elijah and Evelyn Sparks; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and dear friends.
Glen was predeceased by: his mother Linda, who showered him with her wisdom, encouragement, laughter, and love; his paternal grandparents Dorothy and Clifford Sparks; his maternal grandparents Rachel and Lloyd Jackson; brother-in-law Wade Smith; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Those who knew Glen were aware of his struggles with mental health, however through it, the true essence of his being continued to shine. Those who loved him dearly will never forget his infectious laugh, his gentle spirit and his undying love. He was well liked by everybody, mostly due to his positive energy, big heart, giving nature and general love for all people.
Glen was a living example of Ephesians 4:32:
"Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you."
In the spirit of Glen, we hope those who encountered him will follow his lead and simply lead with your heart, and be kind to others, especially those you come across who are vulnerable.
The family also wishes to thank Pauline Chang and Seaton House staff, as well as the doctors and nurses of St. Michael's Hospital, for the care they provided and the kindness they showed us as a family. We would also like to thank everyone for their calls, messages, and caring support at this time.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Road, York, ON. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service which will be held at Ward Funeral Home at 1:00pm on Friday, February 24th, 2023 officiated by Brother Lyle Brewster.
