Michael Sloski

Michael Anthony Sloski
January 19, 1924 – March 8, 2015

Passed away peacefully after an incredible life, well lived. Predeceased by his loving parents, Michael and Julia, his sister, Irene, and his dearly missed wife Betty (nee Charters) of 64 years. Devoted father of Anne Randell (Rick), Michael, Peter (Michele) and David. Proud grandfather of Josh (Elissa), Emily, Nathan, Trevor and Matthew (Meaghan). Greatgrandfather to Quentin, Travis, Vivien, Ava and William.

Mike, as he was affectionately known, was born in Brampton and attended Central Public School and Brampton High School. A star athlete, Mike excelled at hockey, baseball, lacrosse, golf and curling. Like so many of his contemporaries, he served his country and community faithfully for a lifetime. He joined the RCAF and became a Flight Lieutenant with 429 Squadron. As a Bomber Pilot, with a distinguished Air Crew, he flew many successful wartime missions. After five years of valiantly serving his country, he returned to Brampton and began his 35 year career with Bell Canada.

His life included serving many years as a Trustee and Chair of the Brampton Public School Board, a member, director and Chair of the Brampton Golf and Country Club, director of the Brampton Curling Club, charter member of the Toronto Air Crew Association, Chair of the Building Committee of St. James the Apostle Church, along with other important community volunteer work. In his retirement, he and Betty spent more time with friends and family, enjoyed many years of wonderful travel and endless games of cribbage and gin rummy.

Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home, 52 Main Street South in Brampton on Thursday, March 12, 2015 from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm.
