Michael John Doherty (Mickey) born Belfast, Northern Ireland on May 17, 1934. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael in the early hours of February 1, 2022. Michael will be reunited with his beloved wife, Nell, who passed away in 2017. Michael is survived by his son Sean and daughter Paula, and his many nieces and nephews in the GTA, USA, Ireland and England.

Michael will be remembered as a gentleman who always had a smile on his face. Family was the most important part of his life and he loved the years spent in the Irish Dance community and the Irish community in Brampton and Toronto. Growing up in Belfast Michael became involved in boxing and went on to represent Ireland in Austria and Germany, winning numerous amateur titles and turning professional before moving to Canada in 1955. In Canada he was reunited with his love Nell, who he married in 1956.

Michael spent over 30 years at Bell Canada and after retiring continued on in the telecom world at the GTAA. In his retirement Michael focused on family including caring for Nell before her passing. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers we ask you to donate to the Alzheimer’s Society of Peel, an organization very close to our hearts.
