Loving husband of Aline Rocha, Mike Perretta died suddenly on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. He had just enjoyed a meal with some of his favorite foods, when he had a suspected heart attack. He was loved by his mother Maurina and his father Vito (predeceased). His wife Aline, mother Maurina Perretta, siblings Mary, Frank (Gabe), and Jim (Brian), nieces Christine (Mike) and Adelina (Peter), and nephews Anthony and Andrew, are deeply saddened by this loss. His older brother Dan just died in February 2023 – they had a close bond as well.
In his youth, Mike was quite active socially and physically. He was a proud member of the varsity wrestling team at Victor J. Andrew High School in suburban Chicago. He also loved playing basketball and football. He instilled a love of sport and live concerts in his siblings. He owned a vintage blue Cadillac convertible and kept it in immaculate condition.
Mike worked as a residential painter and later joined Air Canada. He travelled extensively as a young adult and met the love of his life during one of his travels to Rio de Janeiro. He reveled in the nightlife and Carnival atmosphere of Copacabana Beach with his sweetheart and eventual wife – Aline. They had a loving relationship for over 25 years.
Although Mike developed mental health challenges, he had some interests. He followed soccer and basketball, and enjoyed the music of the 1970s and 1980s, most notably Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Aline was a devoted caregiver to Mike throughout his mental health journey.
Dear Mike – your life took you from Vancouver to Chicago and Brazil and Toronto – and various travels in-between. Thank you for your friendship and love. You are unforgettable.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mike's name to the Canadian Mental Health Association, would be greatly appreciated by the family.
