Maximilian Ciarmela – born July 7, 1996, deceased December 11, 2021.

Loving son to John and Angela, brother and best friend to Gianfranc (Liv), grandson to Elisabetta, nephew to Nick, Joe (Anny), Greg, cousin to Nikki (Adam), Christian, Elisabeth (Alex), Johnny, Stephanie and Danielle. Predeceased by his grandparents, Gianni, Franco and Pasqualina – they loved Max more than life itself.

On December 11th, we tragically lost our son and Gianfranc's brother. Our lives and hearts are shattered and our souls are crushed. We are devastated by this loss and are working hard to come to terms with it. While consumed with grief, we know we have much to be grateful for. We are grateful to our family and friends for the love and support shown to us. We pray that Max is in a better place – reunited with his guardian angels including his grandparents, especially his Nonno Gianni, his kindred spirit, who loved and adored him. May he be at peace.

Our focus now is on honouring Max in every way that we can. Grieving together with our family and friends has allowed us time to relive so many wonderful memories. We are truly grateful to those of you who shared your memories with us, reminding us just how wonderful Max truly was. There isn't anything that can bring us more comfort than this right now.

On July 7, 1996 we were blessed with the birth of our long awaited miracle baby and little brother. We were privileged to have Max in our lives albeit sadly for only a short 25 years. In those 25 years Max had a truly beautiful life. Max attended Humber Valley Village, Richview Collegiate and Ryerson School of Journalism. His love of sports, especially basketball, eventually led him to what would become his dream career in sports journalism. He went on to work for CBC Sports, Basketball World Toronto and Raptors Insider.

Max had many friends - his Humber Valley Boys, Wes, Dave, Will, Nish, Matt, Nick, Alex, Jack, Issac, Eric and many more. They did everything together. They worked out, partied and hung out making jokes incessantly. They had a true brotherhood. Max was also a little brother to Kevin, Justin, Mark, Mike, Stefan, Kit, Jill, Nicole, Olympia, Stan, Howie and in fact all of Gianfranc's friends. They all adored Max and we're grateful for having them by our side during this worst of times.

Our son was a most singular special person. He was loved by so many. He would light up a room and inspire and energize those around him with his extraordinary sense of humor. He was an elite athlete who amazed fields and courts around the nation. Max was the most precious of gems that shone bright. That immense light that radiated on this earth through Max while he was with us, will now shine within us always.

Rest in peace Max. You will be in our thoughts and hearts every minute of every day until we see you again.

With all of our love, Mom, Dad and Gianfranc.
