With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Maureen Vermay Bascombe on July 25th, 2024, at the Humber River Hospital. At the age of 82, after a courageous battle with debilitating conditions, she leaves behind a legacy of strength and resilience. Maureen Bascombe was born in St. Michael’s Barbados and was the daughter of the late Eileen Shepherd and Forest Griffith. She was one of four siblings: Ralph, Edith and Orville all of whom predeceased her. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 44 years, Leonard Bascombe. She was the loving mother of Colin Shepherd and stepmother to Nicole Lovell Boyce (USA). She was a cherished sister-in-law of Evan Bascombe (USA), Stephan and Trevor Bascombe (Barbados), Priscilla Yarde (USA), Joanne Baker (USA), Brenda Yarde (USA), Oscar Yarde (USA), and Tato Yarde, who predeceased her, as well as Elise Redman, who also predeceased her.

Maureen was the devoted grandmother of Kameka Reid, Dennis Shepherd, DeAnn Reid, Tonni Sommerville and Jade Reid. She was also the great grandmother of Neekay Kelly, KayRon Kelly, Skyler Kelly, Zoey Streeter, Nazrith Shepherd, Tishawn Lovell, Troy Boyce Jr, Jeremiah Boyce, Chloe Boyce, Cyrah Boyce, Pierre Sarji and Dominic McGivilray.

She leaves behind two daughters-in-law Maggie Shroeder and Jannet Reid as well a son-in-law, Troy Boyce Sr. Maureen was the beloved aunt of Betty Pemberton (USA), Alysia Cooper (USA), David shepherd, the late Freddie Shepherd.

She was also the cousin of Eveyette Shepherd (USA), Herbie Shepherd, and the late Arnold Shepherd, Louis Shepherd, and Espin Shepherd, all of whom predeceased her. Additionally, she was a relative of Monica Redman & the Redman family. Maureen was a lifelong friend of Lynette Cedena, Etris Mason, Richard & Angela Moore, Sybill Hackette, Norma Clark & The Clark Family, as well as Carlas/Lawton & the Lane Family. She was also a dear friend to Elaine Wilson & The Johnson Family.

A visitation will be held on August 16, 2024 from 6:00-9:00 pm at Ward's Funeral home. The Funeral service will take place on Saturday August 17th, at Ward's Funeral Home, where family and friends are asked to meet at 1030am. A Livestream will be available for those who are unable to attend. Following the service, we will then proceed to Beechwood Cemetery for the burial. After the burial service, family and friends are invited to return to Ward's Funeral Home for the repass.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maureen's memory to Humber River Hospital.
