Mary Nielsen

Mary passed into her reward on October 25, 2014. Mary was born on October 21, 1918 in Oakville, Ontario. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred Peter Nielsen on July 10, 1991, as well as all her siblings Grace, Ina, Billy, Fred and Harvey. Mary’s mother died shortly after giving birth to her and Aunt Laura Flewellyn raised her as her own. Mary is survived by her five children, Gwen, Peter, Judith, Fred and Eric, as well as numerous grand and great-grandchildren. Mary was the fourth generation of her family raised in Oakville and spent her life there. She taught Sunday School for fifty years at Sheridan United Church and was a deaconess. Mary wrote poetry, short stories and hymns. She graduated from Shaw's school of writing, attended Covenant College in Toronto as well as Sheridan College.
The family would like to thank all of the Spruce six staff at the Post Inn Village for all of their care and kindness in regards to Mom's care.
Visitation will be held on October 28, 2014 from 2 pm-4 pm and 7 pm-9 pm at Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville, Ontario L6J 3K4. A service will be held on Wednesday, October 29th, 2014, at Sheridan United Church, 2501 Truscott Drive, Mississauga, Ontario L5J 2B3 at 11 am with an hour visitation prior to the service. An interment at St Jude's Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sheridan United Church or the charity of your choice.
