Mary(Marie) Ida Dougan nee-Hendricken
In Loving Memory of Marie’s Dash----------- December 14th, 2021 90 Years of Living!
Marie was born on July 20th, 1931 to Bernie & Mary(Trainor) Hendricken in Pisquid, PEI. She was the sister of Joe, John, Eileen, Gene, Theresa, Frank, Amelda, Grace & Victor.
Like Many fellow Islanders, Toronto was the place to go. Country living to big city living took courage but that was something Marie didn’t lack. She was homesick for the island until she re: connected with a handsome red head named Vince Dougan.
At the age of 20 she married Vince and she was welcomed into the loving family of John and Florence(Smith) Dougan of Bedford, PEI. She gained 11 fun & loving Brother-in-laws & wonderful Sister-in-laws.
At the age of 21 her dreams of being a Mom came true and they welcomed Ann(Greg-Decd.Mike),
Vince-Decd.(Eileen), John Daniel(Phyllis), Paul(Sue) and Janet(Brian).
Marie found her passion working for Eaton's where she was honoured by George Eaton himself as he presented her with a quarter of a century Diamond Ring.
The Hendricken & Dougan families were growing and they loved all the special times spent with their Nieces & Nephews creating beautiful memories in Ontario and travelling every summer back home(PEI) to instill their island heritage which they were both so proud of.
Their Babies had babies and the next generation came- Dale(Trinity), Sarah(Jay), Michael(Angie) Kathleen, Tomas(Courtney), Jenny(David), Matthew & Sean. Then the next generation of Great Grand Babies- Liam, Emma, Aiden, Portia, Charlie, Rowen & Isla.
Marie created a Safe, Loving & Nurturing home on the circle for over 60years and all were welcome. She lost the love of her life at 64yrs but she was surrounded by great loving neighbours who became great friends. She also enjoyed her trips to the Amesbury Seniors Club. When you entered her home you were greeted with “RU Hungry” which was later her license plate.
Marie passed peacefully at Weston Gardens Retirement Residence who treated her like their own Momma and made sure she was as comfortable as she could be and we are grateful to all the staff!
Marie Loved her Family, Friends and People & Boy oh Boy what a Dash!!!
