MARY LOUISE (KELLAM) MARA (March 30, 1924 – January 26, 2022). It is with great sadness the family announces her passing on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 in her 98th year. Beloved wife of the late William Kinsman Mara having married in October 1947 at St. Paul’s United Church in Brampton, ON. Cherished mother of Elizabeth Berry (Leslie) of Burlington, ON. Predeceased by herson William Taylor "Billy". Dear sister of the late Carman and sister-in-law Ivy Kellam of Brampton, ON and dear sister of the late Franklin and the late sister-inlaw of Nora Kellam of Thornhill, ON. Greatly missed by her granddaughter Kelly Abrahamof Hamilton, ON. She will also be sadly missed by her nieces, nephews as well as great nieces and great nephews. Mary was born and raised in Brampton, ON. She attended McHugh Public School then was a graduate of Brampton High School. She was a teller at the Royal Bank of Canada at Brampton’s downtown location for a number of years then raised her family. She later worked at the Motor License Office where her husband Bill was the Head Issuer. She was an accomplished musician earning her Grade 10 Piano Certificate at the Royal Conservatory of Music, and was a talented alto singer and organist. Mary was, as were her parents and family, a life-long member of St. Paul’s United Church in Brampton. Her fellow choristers in the senior choir were her father, Isaac Kellam, her Aunt Sadie Robinson, also an alto, and then later, her daughter Elizabeth, also singing in the alto section. Mary was very active at St. Paul’s serving as Junior Choir leader, Secretary on the Official Board, a member of the United Church Women (U.C.W.) and offering counter. Mary and Bill joyously welcomed their granddaughter Kelly in May 1984. Later that year, they tragically lost their son, Billy, due to a heart-breaking accident. In April 1990, Mary joined her husband in retirement and enjoyed their daily morning visits to various Brampton coffee shops, having visits with friends and family, taking many trips to Wellsboro, PA and gardening at their Chapel Street property. Sadly, husband Bill passed away in January 2010 and Mary, for the first time in her life, was living on her own. From 2013 through 2018, Mary enjoyed accompanying Elizabeth, Les & Kelly at their townhouse in Florida, escaping the Canadian winters. In October of 2017, Mary moved from Chapel Street to Greenway Retirement Home in Brampton where her sister-in-law Ivy also lived. Being a social person, Mary enjoyed talking with her fellow residents and visits from family members and friends. She will be immensely missed by all those who loved and knew her. The family will receive friends at the Ward Funeral Home "Brampton Chapel" 52 Main Street South (Hwy. 10), Brampton, ON on Monday, January 31, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul's United Church, Brampton, ON.
