Mary Jones

JONES, MARY (nee CHIMY) Mary Jones, died peacefully in her sleep at her home on February 17, 2025, triumphantly in her 94th year. Beloved wife of Gordon Jones (deceased) and greatly adored mother to Larry (Cathy), Randy (Caroline) and Stephen (Diana). Loving grandmother to Shelby, Raquel, Patrick, and Daniel. Great-grandmother to Cole, William, and Landon. Loving sister to Eugene.  Predeceased by her brother Father Myron, sister Anne and parents John and Magda. 

Born on her family’s farm in Radway, Alberta on January 26, 1931, she grew up in a small prairie community amongst other Ukrainian families. She was a hard worker balancing the demands of raising a family with working full time. Rising at 5 am, she would complete household chores before commuting to work – always the first in the office. She was a master of the typewriter and then later became adept at word processing on the computer. After retiring, she kept busy babysitting her grandsons and going out to shop, especially for new books. Her family will deeply miss her. One of the kindest souls on earth, she would do anything to help a family member or neighbour. She donated to many causes and welcomed many homeless animals into her home over the years. Her grandchildren became an important part of her life, spending many hours with them when they were young. An avid reader, she bought numerous books to read and then share with her family. In earlier years, she experimented with sewing and trying various new recipes. She learned to drive in her fifties. She attended Catholic church where she found peace and solitude after the passing of her husband. 

In lieu of flowers, donations to Annex Cat Rescue or the Toronto Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.
