ALSOP, M. Eleanor (Nee Davies)

Passed away peacefully at the age of 98 at Southbrook Retirement Residence. Predeceased by husband Gordon, sisters Margaret Nichol and Dr. Helen Davies Brown. Loving mother to Peggy De Saegher (Albert), John (Donna), James (Nellie) and Jane Alsop-McQueen (Ian). Devoted grandmother to Ted (Guylene), Tom, Rick (Summer), Rob (Jolyne), Ashley (Paul), Joni (David), Michael (Lucy), Tyler (Sanja), Aline (Wes) and Eric. Delighted great-grandmother of Kylie, Hayley, Vanessa, Lucas, Cassandra and Lincoln.

In addition to her family, Mom loved nature and animals. An Alsop dog was a lucky dog indeed! Outdoors is the place Mom liked to be. The family cottage was a special place.

Mom was active in other ways as well. Mom taught at McHugh Public School where she met Dad. Mom and Dad were Charter Members of St. Bartholomew’s United Church. Mom was a founding member of the UCW and a past president. Mom devoted many years running the Kindergarten Department of the Sunday School. She enjoyed being Santa Claus for over 40 years for the church’s outreach initiatives.

Mom was also a long serving area canvassing convenor and office volunteer at the Canadian Cancer Society.

Mom wrote poetry, painted, travelled, loved music and a nice evening paddle up at the cottage.

Cremation has taken place. A Private Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 30, 11:00am.
