Mary Cosentino (nee Vetro)

January 14, 1929 – November 22, 2022

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Mary Cosentino, at the age of 93. Cherished wife and companion of the late Joe Cosentino (2008). Devoted mother of Tony, Anna (Joe Pillo), Vito and Joseph (Melissa). Adored Nonna of Lisa Pillo (Mike D’Arpino), Joey Pillo (Sarah Petrini) and Isabella Cosentino. Caring Bisnonna of Emilia and Lia D’Arpino and Julian and Lucas Pillo.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Teresa Pileggi (Vincenzo), Victoria Barrina (Mario), Rosanna Suppa (Franco) and her brother, Antonio Vetro (Maria). She is survived by Caterina Iozzo (the late Angelo), Nicola and Maria Vetro, Pina and Antonio Ierullo, together with many nieces, nephews and relatives.

Mom migrated to Canada in 1951 and married Dad on January 5, 1952. Together they built a beautiful life together and raised their family, after settling in Etobicoke in 1957. Until recent events, Mom, through the support and care from her family, was able to stay in her home, a place she adored and felt comfortable.

Family and her devotion to it were truly hallmarks of Mom’s life. She treasured family get togethers and holidays, where there was always an abundance of food and where she took great care to ensure that all were taken care of and made to feel special. Mom was at her happiest when her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family would come over for visits and celebrations. She would lovingly watch over them as they played and came over to her for hugs and words of encouragement.

Mom and Dad loved spending time at their condominium in Hallandale, Florida where they escaped the harshest parts of the winter season. They had an extended circle of friends, spent time at the beach and the pool deck and enjoyed their “early bird” dinners. Mom especially enjoyed making zeppole on St. Joseph’s Day and bringing them over to the beach for all of Dad’s “bocce friends” to appreciate.
What endures with us most about Mom was her endless love and devotion to her family, her kindness and generosity to all whose lives that she touched . She will be remembered and cherished by her family and friends each and every day. We thank her and we know that her goodness, her faith, her caring and her wisdom will live on as a legacy of love within us. She will be lovingly missed by so many.

The family would like to thank Mom’s family physician, Dr. John DePaoli and Dr. Mavrogiannis and the staff and volunteers at Dorothy Ley Hospice for their loving, compassionate care over these last several, difficult months.

Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home -Woodbridge Chapel 4671 Highway #7, Woodbridge (just west of Pine Valley Dr.) on Thursday, November 24, 2022, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Gregory’s Church, 122 Rathburn Road, Etobicoke, Ontario, on Friday, November 25, 2022, 11:00 am. Entombment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 7300 Highway #27, Woodbridge, ON.

Due to the evolving status of Covid-19, the family understands if people cannot attend the visitation and the funeral services. We recognize the health and safety of our loved ones comes first. We appreciate your love and support at this time and we welcome your messages of condolence. Please consider donations to either the Dorothy Ley Hospice (Etobicoke) or the Canadian Cancer Society in Mom’s memory.
