Marshall Hugh Revell—known to all as Hugh and fondly as Huge, Dad, Grandad, Great-Grandad, Uncle, and friend—passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, at the age of 92. Born in Nicoll Township, raised in Guelph and after a few other stops in Ontario, raised his family in Etobicoke. He lived a life defined by hard work, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community.
Hugh will be deeply missed by his wife of 15 years, Norma (née Scarrow), and her family. He was predeceased by his first wife of 52 years, Joan (née Sinclair), and his brothers Lloyd, Gerald, and Philip, all World War II veterans. He will always be in the hearts of his children, Mark (Marlene) Revell and Karen (Richard) Wozniak; grandchildren Greg (Bayla), Jessica (Martin), Brad (Taryn), Jessica (Ryan), Jaclyn, Mars, Alysha (Mitchell); and his great-grandchildren Joey, Bentley, Brynn, Jake, Maddox, Jaxson, Harvey, Lena and August.
Hugh had a long and fulfilling career with the Royal Bank of Canada. Beyond his career, he was deeply committed to his community. A proud Kinsmen, he was actively involved in multiple chapters, most notably the Humber Valley Club in Etobicoke, where he served as President and Treasurer. He also held leadership roles with the Toronto Convention and Tourism Bureau, the Stone Road Cottager Association, Muldrew Lake Cottage Association, and supported many Anglican parishes and worth mentioning were his legendary pub nights at St. Richard’s of Chichester.
Hugh also belonged to the Loyal Order of Unicorns in Toronto, and treasured his road trips with the Old Men Walking Club. Even in his 80s, he returned from each trip brimming with stories, knowledge from tours and events, and plenty of mischief with his friends. One of his dearest lifelong friends, Doug Sneyd, who introduced him to the club passed away just nine days before Hugh. No doubt, they are reunited now, sharing laughter and adventures once more.
Hugh was a man of many passions. A devoted car enthusiast, he took great pride in restoring cars, especially his beloved 1966 Ford Galaxie. He also had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, enjoying countless camping trips across Ontario and Alberta. In 1975, he and Joan built their cherished cottage on Muldrew Lake, where he embraced every season, every project, and every moment with family and friends. He formed lasting friendships with fellow cottagers along Old Stone Road, creating a true sense of community. Hugh’s love for the arts was equally profound—he never missed an opportunity to attend concerts, theatre performances, and cultural events, always immersing himself in the beauty of music and storytelling.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the Ward Funeral Home, Brampton Chapel, 52 Main St. South, Brampton, Ontario.
In his memory, his family asks that you honor him in the way he would have loved most—by enjoying music, theatre, or a dance floor. And when you do, give him a thumbs-up… or better yet, sing and dance like no one is watching.
