Marlene Smith

Marlene Anne Smith (nee Colley), peacefully passed away in Brampton, Ontario on November 1, 2023, at the age of eighty. She was born on July 27, 1943, in Toronto, Ontario.

Marlene’s happiest times were spent with Peter, her beloved husband of 58 years and her six children. She achieved a dental hygienist diploma but her most fulfilling role was her work with the Hospital for Sick Children, Women’s Auxiliary and Girl Guides of Canada.

She is predeceased by her parents Anne Colley (nee-Hunter, 1963) and Dr. Ernest Colley (1983), her father-in-law Cecil Smith (1976), her mother-in-law Eleanor Smith (nee Penn, 1990), her brother-in-law Paul Smith (1993), her sister-in-law Valerie Logan (2019), her brother-in-law James Cowie (2021). As an only child, her cousin Joy Wright (2021) was always her best friend and sister. Marlene valued the friendship of her in-laws Susan Cowie, Mary Jean Smith, and Gary Logan.

Marlene is remembered by her lifelong partner Peter, her six children Joanne (Jeremy), Darren, Danielle (Buddy), Melissa (Andrew), Candace and Diana (Sher). Also remembered by her nine grandchildren Ryan, Brendan, Alex, Brianna, Sylvia, Sophie, Sadie, Siobhan & Cas.

The family is grateful to the staff of Burton Manor for the personal care of Marlene in her final years.

A private family gathering has taken place. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Sunnybrook Health Science - Centre for Brain Health is appreciated.
