Marjorie Jean Fernane (nee Aron)
With sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Marjorie Jean Fernane (nee Aron) on January 27, 2025 at the age of 88. She was in her own home at Southbrook Retirement Residence after a few weeks in hospital.
Marjorie was predeceased by her husband Patrick and her son Paul. She will be forever missed by her son Mike and wife Sue and her daughter Maureen and husband Neil Rounding. Marj was a fun-loving grandma to Keri (Dave), Stephanie (Sean), Greg (Claire) and Jamie and special great grandma to Max, Evelyn and Nolan. She will be remembered fondly by her brother-in-law Barry Bradbury (Patricia deceased) and nieces and nephews.
Marj grew up in Toronto with her four siblings. She met a handsome young man, Patrick, at Bloor Collegiate High School and they married in 1957. She worked briefly at Bell Canada but then chose to stay home to raise their three children, Michael, Maureen and Paul. Together her and Pat travelled to watch their kids play hockey, baseball and lacrosse where lifelong friendships were formed. Summers were family camping trips to Killbear Park. She enjoyed working part time for Welcome Wagon when Brampton was a smaller town. As the kids grew and left home, Pat’s retirement allowed them to travel overseas and spend time in their RV touring Canada and the USA. Marj had friends through Bell Pioneers and later at Holland Christian Homes.
Marj had a very good sense of humour, a great laugh, and loved a good joke, many of which she shared with staff at Southbrook, where she moved after Pat died. She was current in the news, loved old movies, watched tennis and always said she was never lonely if she had a good book. She was very proud of her family and looked forward to gatherings like this past Christmas where she was able to spend time with everyone. Marj loved to talk to Keri, Greg, Stephanie and Jamie to see what was happening in their lives. She was very involved with them growing up, watching hockey and baseball games (with a toonie after), having a Christmas tree just for kids to decorate and setting up the nativity scene, the dress-up box, paying them to weed the garden, snacking on chips from the freezer or sundaes with lots of toppings, playing board games and going to the park and Dairy Queen.
Her special loves, Max, Evelyn and Nolan had their pictures placed proudly in her room for all to see. Max will have memories of her while she watched him play. Evelyn and Nolan will be able to look back at pictures of her holding and playing with them.
The Fernane family would like to say a special thank you to all the staff at Southbrook Retirement Residence for their extra care and compassion shown to Marjorie and her family the last few weeks.
A visitation will take place at Ward Funeral Home, 52 Main Street South in Brampton on Thursday, January 30th, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m with service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at Marjorie’s request to Children’s Make-a- Wish Canada or Covenant House Toronto.
