It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to our dear matriarch, Catherine Marjorie (Weeks) Buchanan, who passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at Humber River Hospital.

She will be forever remembered as a loving mother to Karen (Brian) Dunning, Rick and mother-in-law to Hans Birker and Kim Buchanan. She has gone to rest with her beloved husband Aubrey and cherished daughter Terri Lee Birker. Marjorie’s kind and generous spirit will live on in her grandchildren Ben (Nan), Alison, Travis (Violeta), Kyle (Marc), Emily, Katja (Ethan), Liam and Quinci. In her later years, she adored being Great Nana to Emma, Iris, Carmen, Ellie, Jane and Yvo. She is survived by her sister Eleanor Howatt, brother Robert and sisters-in-law Leah and Carol Weeks. Previously departed were her brothers Fred and Earl, sisters-in-law Ellen Sibbert and Dot Weeks and brothers-in-law Grant Buchanan and Jack Howatt. Marjorie will also be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Marjorie grew up on a farm in Fredericton, Prince Edward Island, the oldest of Roy and Ruby Weeks’ five children. Like many Islanders, she moved to Toronto but took a piece of the Island with her. Herb Buchanan, a neighbour, told her to “look up Aubrey” which she fortunately did. What followed were more than sixty years of marriage with this fellow Islander- a life filled with children, summer visits to PEI to see family, volunteering, bridge, golf, cruising, winters at the Florida condo and always a close network of friends.

Marjorie embodied the spirits of kindness, elegance, grace, generosity and composure. Never one to complain about anything, she was always wonderful to be around. She stuck to her motto of “if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all”, and quietly motivated others to do the same. Always modest and understated about her capabilities, Marjorie could handle herself equally well at fancy cocktail parties, the golf clubs, or just sitting around a PEI farm table, perhaps with a lobster in hand. Right until the end, Marjorie took pride in looking after herself independently in her condo with the support of family.

Marjorie, Mom, Nana, Great Nana and Aunt Marj, you are gone from our lives but never absent from our hearts.

Friends and family will be received from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Weston, immediately followed by the Funeral service in the Chapel. A reception will follow.

Memorial donations in Marjorie's Memory would be greatly appreciated.
