Passed away with his family by his side on Friday January 5, 2024 at the age of 69. Devoted husband to Lucia for 50 wonderful years. Proud father of Lisa (Colin Cracknell) and Angela (Jason Galea). Cherished Nonno of Ella and Owen Cracknell and Leo and Ava Galea. Loving son of Angela. Dear brother of Frank (Marquita) and Franca (Wally). He will be sadly missed by his many family and friends. Mario has been reunited with his late father Gaetano.

Mario was born in Cosenza, Italy to parents Gaetano and Angela. He moved to Canada with his parents and siblings in 1965. At the age of 16 fate brought the love of his life to him and two years later Lucia became his lovely bride.

The young couple worked hard to provide for their family. Mario and Lucia loved doing many things together. From working on their home to restoring the 1979 Fiat Spyder, and enjoying vacation adventures. Their many trips back to Italy to visit family and devour a few cannoli or basking in the Caribbean sun were favorite past times. Mario enjoyed carpentry and woodworking, cooking, curing meats, and baking, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.

Mario was affectionately known as “Super Mario”, which was a suitable nickname for an extremely strong man who never gave up in the face of adversity. When his health permitted, he would be to the aid of the kids with every home repair they had. In the last few years, a phone call to Dad would be our Google search on how-to-fix-it. He would talk us through the process until the job was done. Our Dad was our role model who inspires us to live with courage, honor, and a deep love for family.

Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home 4671 Hwy 7, Woodbridge (just west of Pine Valley Dr.) on Monday from 4-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the Ward Chapel on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Cremation will take place at a later time. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.
