Mario Giovanni Giammarresi

Mario Giovanni Giammarresi met his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

His family and friends celebrate his 85 years, unified and grateful for his legacy of faith, obedience and service to Christ.

Born in St. Flavia, Sicily, Mario was the youngest of four children and an enthusiastic adventurer who loved the outdoors. An avid swimmer, soccer player, gardener and admirer of nature, his energy and quick wit were known by many.

While he loved God’s creation, he was more devoted to the service of his Christian Faith. If the need called for cleaning churches or transporting families to church, Mario enthusiastically volunteered. For over a decade, he served as assistant pastor at a local church in Sicily prior to moving to Canada. His ministry of prayer to serve others ignited life changing results rendering stories told even today.

Quiet and reserved, yet bold for his convictions, Mario consistently served as a lampstand for his community and especially to his beautiful wife and six amazing daughters, four sons in laws and eleven gifted grandchildren.

Devoted husband of the late Sara. Proud father of Carmela (the late Giuseppe), Rosemarie, Miriam (Sam), Raimonda (Joseph), Lidia (Frank) and Mara. Cherished Nonno of Luca (Iyanna), Antonio, Katrina, Giancarlo, Michele, Vincenzo, Mario, Matteo, Daniel, Dante and Sara. Dear brother of Franco (the late Bessie), Maria (Pino) and Giuseppina (the late Giuseppe), his life lives on through us, his family .

Mario has completed his journey and would agree with the Apostle Paul: For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. (Philippians 1:21)  May his testimony endure as we will forever miss this good and faithful servant who has entered the service of his beloved King.

Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home 4671 Hwy 7, Woodbridge (just west of Pine Valley Dr.) on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday September 23, 2024 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Kettleby Cemetery 631 Kettleby Rd., Kettleby Ontario.
