Marie Swackhamer

March 16, 1929 — May 22, 2020

Marie Swackhamer

During the early morning hours of May 22, 2020, Marie SWACKHAMER (nee Ackroyd), in her 92nd year, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Southbrook Retirement home in Brampton. She is survived by her husband Gerry of 69 years. She is sadly missed by her son Brent (Linda) and her grandchildren Kyle, Troy and Jacob and her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister Eileen Henderson and husband Jack Henderson.

Marie was born on March 16, 1929 and lived all her life in Brampton. She was known as a strong-minded and strong-willed woman who didn’t know the meaning of the word “No”. She was never afraid of hard work and preferred the finer things in life, for which she worked vigorously to achieve. She was honest to the core and spoke her mind. If you asked her, her opinion and you didn’t agree with it..well that was your problem not hers. She was famous for her dinner parties and it seemed like she was the eternal hostess, always having friends and family over to her house. No gathering or amount of people was too great.

She worked for many years at what was first Northern Electric and subsequently became Northern Telecom, where she contributed to their suggestion program and received substantial compensations, numerous times, of which she was quite proud of.

In her latter years she and her husband Gerry scoured the continent on numerous trips, first by plane and then by bus. Her mindset was that she had worked hard for all of her life so she was going to enjoy what she had earned with the love of her life.

She was extremely protective of her family and had a fierce loyalty to her friends.
She would bend over backwards to try to make the world a perfect place for those who she cared about.
As outspoken and larger that life as she appeared to the outside world, she doted on her husband. He was the love of her life.

She was also loved her three grandchildren and was extremely proud of all their accomplishments. Her face would light up every time that they came to visit her.
