It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of our dear mother Maria Grazia Tanel (nee Fellin) on Sunday August 11, 2024. She has joined her beloved husband, Carlo, who predeceased her in 2012. Loving and cherished mother to her daughter, Lori and son Roger. Dear sister to Rita (Silvano) and Bruna (Luigi p.d), and her brothers predeceased Ezio (Lolli), Beppino (Lida) and Paul (Yolanda) and beloved sister-in-law to Pierina and her late husband Luigi. Loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews.

She was born in Revo, Trento, Italy in 1936. Our mother came to Canada with her beloved father Ciro, landing in Nova Scotia and then making their way by train to Toronto where they settled with the rest of their family in downtown Toronto and were later joined by her cherished mother, Maria and sister Rita. 

In 1956 she met her sweetheart, Carlo and were married on October 26, 1957. They settled in a home in a new subdivision on the edge of Toronto which they shared with our aunt Pierina and uncle Luigi and where we grew up with our cousins Eddy and Renato. Mom would return to Italy over the years with our father to enjoy many summers together in their native country. Both mom and our father were very good cooks and often entertained in their home which was a hub to family and friends.

She was a very kind and thoughtful person with a deep sense of family, always encouraging us to be close and kind to each other. She loved to knit, making beautiful blankets for us and was an avid gardener. Her flowers were a great sense of pride and joy for her and for us. 

Mamma was wise and always had a proverb ready for every situation. Even at this sad time we found a card that she had kept for over 50 years with an italian proverb that sums up the way she lived her life as our mother: “You guided and escorted us from the day of the cradle. You smiled and gave everything, you forgave everything and asked nothing for yourself”. 

You will be forever missed and always in our hearts.
