It is with deep sadness that the family of Maria Ludwig, shares that she passed away peacefully, at Humber River Hospital, Toronto, the morning of Thursday August 11, 2022, after a short illness.
Born on March 28, 1935 in Romania, Maria moved to Germany at a young age, and later moved to Canada in 1956. It is there that she met her dear husband of 66 years, Walter Ludwig. Maria was a devoted and caring mother to sons Rainer (Dagmar) of Toronto, and Eduard (Joan) of Timmins. Maria cherished her two grandsons Kurt (Briana) of Timmins, and Nathan (Erin) of Sydney, Australia. She will be remembered lovingly by her two great-grandsons, Liam and Owen of Timmins, and her great granddaughter, Millie of Sydney.
Maria is survived by her three sisters, Helga (Stuttgart, Germany), Maggie (Oklahoma, US) and Erna (Toronto), and two brothers Reinhold and Ernst of Germany.
Maria’s greatest pleasure was spending time with family. She will be fondly remembered for her love of cooking and baking, and spending time on many beautiful lakes, often blueberry picking with family in the north. An accomplished seamstress, knitter, and gardener, Maria kept herself very busy after retirement, from a career in Photoengraving and binding.
Maria made a very positive difference in the lives she touched over the years. Her kind and caring nature will be remembered by all. In memory of Maria, please share an act of kindness with someone today. Remembrance donations to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
A private family celebration of Maria’s life will be held this week to honour Maria. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with Ward Funeral Homes, Weston Chapel.
Many thanks to the staff at Humber River Hospital, for their outstanding care. Special thanks to Kwame Ofosu, RN, who provided such exceptional compassionate care to Maria and her family, during her final hours. Thank you.
