It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dearest mother, Maria in her 80th year on September 9th, 2024. Maria was born to Bruno and Maria Rosina Pelaia in Serra San Bruno, Vibo Valentia, Calabria, Italy. She is now reunited with her parents and siblings Innocenza, Elena, Guiseppina and Giuseppe. Maria has also been reunited with her beloved husband, Pietro.

Maria was a devoted and proud mother to Anna (Charlie), and Rose. She was the beloved grandmother of Sebastian, Joseph and David. She will be greatly missed by her brother Giovanni Vittorio (Antonietta), her sister-in-law Teresa, Francesco Mannella, her nieces and nephews, and her many friends.

Maria moved to Toronto at the age of 18 and became a master seamstress of fashion design, spending her career creating wedding dresses. Later, she devoted her craft to ensuring that every young girl in need had a communion dress for their special occasion. Maria was very compassionate, making sure to give back to everyone she loved, even beyond her own family and friends, extending her giving nature to children around the world.

Maria was a woman of strong faith and values. It was very easy for her to make friends, as people were drawn to her loving, kind and generous nature.

Forever loved, and always remembered.

Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home (4671 Highway 7, Woodbridge) on Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024 at St. Padre Pio Parish (5500 Major Mackenzie Drive, Kleinburg). Interment to follow at Glenview Memorial Gardens
