Maria D’Souza peacefully passed away on September 21, 2021, with her family by her side in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Maria was 65 years old and leaves behind her beloved husband Santo, her children Johann, Kayann and Abigail, daughter in-law Alina, son in-law Nolan, granddaughter Hannah, siblings the late Bernadette, Connie, Ephrem, Alfred, the late Agatha, Dola and Remy.

Born in Pune, India on November3, 1955, Maria was one of eight children raised by her dearly departed parents Baptist and Casmira. After graduating University with a Bachelors of Commerce Degree, Maria worked at the Bank of India and soon after met the love of her life, Santo. Moving from India to Oman in 1981 and then emigrating to Canada in 1994, Maria worked at Brampton Hydro. After 20 years of working, taking care of three kids and managing a full-time job, Maria attained her Certified General Accountant (CGA) designation, which was one of her proudest accomplishments.

Maria was known by many of her friends and family as a renowned jokester who loved to get a few laughs, was always upbeat with a smile on her face and a proud mother and wife. To her children, Maria was their best friend. She always picked up the phone to hear their stories, problems and triumphs. She encouraged them to be better every day and always wanted the best for them. Maria had such joy for her family and spoke of them highly to all her friends and anyone willing to listen. Most of all, Maria shared the love of prayer with her children, husband, siblings and friends. She was a devout Catholic and truly believed in God.
Maria will be missed by her husband after 42 years of marriage. They shared every moment together and he took gentle care of her in the good and harder days of her life. Maria’s infectious smile, quick witted one liner’s, notorious negotiating skills and big heart will also be missed dearly by all her friends and family.
