Maria Cristoforo
Sunrise: February 1, 1954
Sunset: December 18, 2024
It is with profound sadness our family announces the passing of our dear Mother, Daughter, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Niece, Cousin and Friend, Maria Cristoforo.
She was born in Satriano, Italy on, February 1, 1954, 70 years ago. Bravely, with her mother Caterina and younger brother Domenic they started their immigration journey to Canada in 1967, to join her father, Teodoro. Through her parent’s example, she developed the strongest work ethic from such a young age and strived at each task that was presented to her. She could get so much done in a day, fresh tomato sauce, spinach ricotta cannoli, and tiramisu from scratch! While she cooked daily, she managed to take care of her parents.
An incredible daughter to Caterina and Teodoro Chiaravalloti. A compassionate caregiver not only to her parents but to the seniors within her extended family and her Italian community. When people see her mother, they say “wow she looks great”. Caterina thriving is a true testament to Maria’s commitment to caregiving.
During her journey this year, after 2 major surgeries, and 108 days of hospitalization, she was finally discharged from Brampton Civic Hospital. The only place she wanted to go, was to visit her mom at the long-term care facility, after being cooped up for an entire summer.
In July of 1959, she became a big Sister to Domenic (aka Mimmo). In her darkest and roughest days, she appreciated his dedicated presence.
In 1974, she gave birth to Frank and Josie followed in 1977. She adored both of her children and was incredibly proud of their accomplishments.
In 2006, her Granddaughter Maya was born. She often mentioned, what an amazing contribution she was to the family and the peace she brought to everyone. In 2014, shortly after the tremendous loss of her loved ones, Matthew (aka Matty) was born. He was the perfect addition to the family and revived her from her heartbreak.
This past year represented an incredibly tough journey for her. All aspects of her life were challenged through this experience. With the guidance of the Lord, while struggling for days, months, and seasons, he sent her the strength and the strongest people to help. The medical procedures she endured were balanced by the individuals who were at the hospital assisting her. They would go above and beyond the call of duty to provide her comfort. On behalf of the family, we would like to express our sincerest gratitude to those who showed such tremendous consideration.
Flowers were her passion. While at the hospital she enjoyed watching her mom on video calls manicuring all the plants at the Long-Term Care facility. If it's possible, in her memory, potted plants or potted floral arrangements would be appreciated as they will be donated to her mother’s Long Term Care facility. Thank you for helping us provide the seniors with an indoor garden paradise.
For those wanting to express appreciation to Hospice Vaughan, a donation can be made in Maria's honor. Only 40% of hospice facilities are covered by OHIP. The remaining 60% is funded through donations/fundraisers and volunteers. Here is the direct link to the Tribute Giving donation page: Home - Tribute Giving: Memorial & In Honour
To all you caregivers out there, this is the hardest job in the world! May you continue to do it with grace, strength, and courage. You are doing the job of 59 people! God bless you and her for doing her best for as long as she could. We have two hands, one to help ourselves and one to help others.
