Ena Margaret Stevens (nee Sykes) died peacefully in the early morning of June 5, 2022, in her 92nd year. She is deeply missed by her 6 children, Peggy (Dave), Allie, Gail, Jim (Cynthia), Rachel (Tim) and Becky (Rick). Cherished grandma of 9 and adoring great grandma of 7. Margaret’s childhood was spent in Victoria Harbour with her brother Jim surrounded and supported by a close knit extended family. She spent summers on the lakes with her parents as her dad was a laker captain. Her success in school continued at the University of Toronto where she met and married her soul mate, Ken Stevens (d. 2016). Together they created a loving home full of rich experiences including outdoor pursuits like cross country skiing, camping, canoeing and cottaging. Mom engaged us in home crafts including candle-making, sewing, preserving and baking and showed her unique flare in things such as her puff creations and the cherished Santa sack tradition.
Mom was very generous with her time and resources. She was a founding member of CHATS (Community Home Assistance to Seniors), an integral part of Woodbridge United Church, the lead organizer of the Cancer Daffodil campaign for many years, an active member of the Canadian Federation of University Women and a part of many other volunteer and charitable initiatives. Mom’s curiosity for knowledge and openness to new ideas lasted throughout her life.
If you so wish donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
