It is with deepest sorrow that we share the passing of Margaret Jean [Worden] Snider, in her 87th year, on February 26, 2017 after a brief illness.
Mari was born April 9, 1930 in Weston, Ontario and attended Weston Collegiate Institute, where her father, Ernest H.G. Worden, was the School Principal. She enjoyed languid summers on Georgian Bay as a camper at Camp Kitchikewana. Graduating from Victoria College, University of Toronto with the class of 5T1, her marriage to the late Ted ‘Trombone’ Snider (Engineering 4T9) brought the young couple to Ottawa and then Three Rivers, Quebec while raising their family. They moved again to Beaconsfield where Mari resided for many years. Always active in her community, Mari was a strong supporter of UNICEF and was known as Brown Owl to many cohorts of Beacon Hill Brownies. As a member of the Canadian Federation of University Women’s Club, Mari chaired several study groups. She completed her studies in Early Childhood Education and loved her work as a nursery school teacher. Later, she worked as a residential real estate agent. The family enjoyed many years of skiing at Mount Sutton and glorious summer days at their country house near Abercorn, Quebec. As an enthusiastic antique collector, Mari had a keen eye for Canadiana. She was an avid reader and in her later years enjoyed her creative writing classes. A courageously independent woman, she was kind, friendly and always took a genuine interest in people. She is survived by her children: Laurie (Richard Emery) Montreal West, QC; David (Joan Young) Cantley, QC; Nancy (Bill) Prittie, Newmarket, ON; and 3 loving grandchildren (Alexandra, Ryan, Rob). She will be missed.
A celebration of her life will be held Sunday April 9th 2-4pm at the Granite Club, Toronto, ON. Thanks to the caring staff at Hollandview Trail Retirement Residence, Aurora and to Hanna for her kindness to our mother.
