Mary “Madeline” Manganelli
March 21, 1932 – September 25, 2023
After a fulsome life, Madeline Manganelli passed away peacefully at the Village of Humber Heights in Etobicoke. Madeline is the daughter of Peter Manganelli and Adelia Allison. She is the dear sister of late Anthony Manganelli (Dorothy), the late Maria Manganelli and the late Dorothy Stewart (William). Maria Bosley (Roland), Peter Manganelli (Dorothy), Nancy Blain (Rick), Mary Anne Colombe (deceased), Elizabeth Staite (Philip) and Phyllip Manganelli (Lorelei) are her nieces and nephews, who along with their families have benefitted from her knitting, crafting and her love.
Madeline worked for the Family Services Association of Metropolitan Toronto for 27 years, she was the first Secretary/Receptionist/Registrar for the Bolton Conference Centre. Madeline was inducted in the Bolton Camp Walk of Fame in 1994 for her years of service and commitment to the Camp and its clients. Madeline retired January 1996.
The United Church played an important role in Madeline’s life. With her family Madeline attended Westmoreland Church and she was an active member of the Beavers, singing in the chorus in their annual performances. She spent many summer days and weekends at the Scouts Canada Camp at Penetanguishene. Sharing many campfires with both young and old. Commonly known as “Brown Owl”, she helped many young city girls learn about Guiding. Madeline is a member of the Guiding Trefoil Guild. When Madeline moved to west Toronto, she joined the Westway United Church.
Madeline, along with her sister Dorothy Stewart, was a member of the Daughters of the Nile Oronto Temple, together they attended many events throughout North America raising funds in support of the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Montreal.
For over 20 years, Madeline could be seen in her blue smock, volunteering at the old and the new Humber River Hospital, assisting staff in their care with patients and families.
Thank you to the staff of the Village of Humber Heights for their support and comfort over the last 4 years. It has been a wonderful place for Madeline to enjoy the well-deserved pampering.
Madeline will be missed by her entire family and many friends.
Friends will be received at Ward Funeral Homes - Weston Chapel (2035 Weston Road Toronto M9N 1X7) on October 21st from 9:30 to 10:30 am. The service will begin at 10:30 am, followed by a reception for all in attendance. The service will be available on line for those who are not able to join us. The family will attend a private interment at Prospect Cemetery after the reception.
In memory of Madeline, donations may be made to Girl Guides of Canada, Shriners Children’s Hospital in Montreal, Humber River Hospital, Westway United Church or a charity of your choice.
