GRÜNEWALD, Luna Fay (nee Brown)
December 31, 1944 - August 14, 2023
Luna passed away peacefully with family by her side at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, Ontario at the age of 78, after a long battle with cancer. She is predeceased by her father George, mother Susan, and husband Alberto, and survived by her three loving children, Tania (Scott), Tamara (Jeremy), and Natasha (Garry), and her four cherished grandchildren.
Born in Jamaica, Luna would gain her Canadian citizenship while achieving her B.Sc. in Microbiology at McGill University in Montréal, Québec. It was in Montréal that she would meet and marry her husband, later moving to the countryside hamlet of Belfountain, Ontario to raise their family together. She studied at the Brampton Campus of Sheridan College, becoming a Registered Nurse, and led a distinguished career as a nurse and caregiver in the decades that followed. She enjoyed the drama of watching a good tennis match from home with a cat in her lap, loved tending to her beautiful orchids, and had a passion for travelling with her friends to exotic climes well into her 70s. Luna always had a strong Catholic faith, regularly attending church, and going on pilgrimages that would take her across the globe. The family would like to thank the staff at Princess Margaret Hospital for their dedicated care and compassion.
Visitation will be held at Ward Funeral Home, 52 Main Street South, Brampton, on Monday, August 28, 2023, from 8:30am until 10:30am. A Funeral Mass will immediately follow at St. Mary's Church, 66A Main Street South, Brampton, at 10:30am. Cremation to take place. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Luna may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Mary's Church, or the charity of your choice.
