July 8, 1995 – May 23, 2017
In his brief life, Luke Haley Gillin made friends easily and cared for them when they needed it. He was a fierce friend. His wit, intelligence, and honor made him a passionate and formidable debater on any issue that interested him, as his father will attest. His sense of humor, from clever jokes to corny puns made people laugh, especially his mother. His love of music and the making of it sustained him during difficult times and created friendships across the world. Luke passed away on May 23, 2017. His passing was peaceful and he is in a place without pain. He leaves behind his parents, C.T. “Terry” Gillin and Robin Haley-Gillin of Oakville; his grandparents, Natalie and Keith Haley of Roanoke, Virginia; aunts and uncles, Karen Haley-Wingate and Tal Wingate of Richmond, Virginia, and Mike Gillin and Pamela Newberry Gillin of Houston, Texas; as well as many cousins across North America. Visitation will be at Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville, on Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church, 1541 Oakhill Drive, Oakville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Riverwood Conservancy, a place he loved to wander, think deep thoughts and be at peace.
