Luis de Freitas, 81, of Vaughan, Ontario, succumbed to cancer surrounded by his loving wife and children on April 10, 2020.
Luis is survived by his wife Maria Odete of 53 years, daughter Ana Paula Sorrenti, daughter-in-law Liza de Freitas, sons Steve de Freitas, Andy de Freitas and loving grandchildren Jonathan Sorrenti, Emily Sorrenti, Nicholas de Freitas and Isabella de Freitas. Luis was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to everyone.
Luis loved sports, especially soccer, where his favorite team was the Sporting Clube de Portugal. He spent his free time watching various sports games (but especially soccer) live and on TV while also being an avid gardener; tending to his vegetable garden for hours a day. He also enjoyed action movies and reading vintage Portuguese cowboy novels. Luis was always there to help relatives and friends with household projects or whatever else people needed him for. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Humber River Hospital Cancer Clinic and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre – Odette Cancer Centre in Toronto for their loving care and support during his final days. Also, the family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude towards Ward Funeral Homes for being very accommodating and understanding during this difficult time.
Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at Ward Funeral Home Woodbridge Chapel on Thursday, April 16. Funeral services for Luis will be at Wards Funeral Home Woodbridge Chapel on Thursday, April 16 from 11:00 to 11:30 AM. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions, visitation and service is limited to 10 visitors and is currently at capacity with immediate family. We welcome all to leave personal messages for our father in the online Book of Memories. Flowers as remembrance of friends and family unable to attend will be gladly accepted at Wards Funeral Home on behalf of the de Freitas family.
Luis will be laid to rest at the Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Woodbridge, Ontario.
