Luigia (Gietta) Padovan

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Luigia “Gietta” Padovan, aged 87 at her home on Wednesday February 5, 2025.

Predeceased by her husband Giovanni, parents Angelo and Osanna Carbonera, and sister Santina Milanese. Gietta will be lovingly remembered by her children, Marilena (Joseph), Angelina, Walter (Cathy) and Robert; grandchildren Eric (Lore), Natalie, Sara and Liliana; great-granddaughter Emma. Sadly missed by her sister Angelina (Paolo) and brother Dominico (Mirella), many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends in Canada, Italy and Switzerland.

Luigia (Gietta) was born in the small village of Campomolino, Treviso, Italy. As a young girl she worked on the family farm developing her passion for things that grow and bloom and caring for her dear nonna Luigia. As a young woman she found work in Switzerland as a seamstress and relished her time living with her sister Angelina amidst the mountains. In March 1958 she married her sweetheart Gianni who had been living and working in Canada. That summer she boarded the Saturnia and embarked on the long voyage to Halifax, Nova Scotia, then continued by train to Toronto where she spent the rest of her life with Gianni raising their four children. She was always devoted to the hospitality of her house guests and carried the same spirit over the many years she worked in catering and at the Campbell’s factory in Etobicoke.

Gietta cherished working in her garden, cooking feasts for her family, looked forward to outings with her friends and would always surprise you with a cheeky and humorous quip. She adored her four grandchildren and sparked with delight when seeing her great-granddaughter. She loved when the sun shone brightly letting it warm her bones and soul.

After she passed the grey afternoon sky broke and sunlight filled the room, she was able to catch up with Gianni ahead of her.

 She will be forever missed.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate a donation to one of the following charities in memory of Mrs. Padovan.
