Luigi Dell'Anna

Dell'Anna, Luigi Gabriele
Passed away in his 83rd year peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday October 10, 2017. Luigi leaves to mourn his dear wife Christel (nee Kopatz). Loving father of daughters Loren (Bill Nadeau) and Carin Domke. Predeceased by his son Michael and parents Primo and Lorenza Dell'Anna. Adored grandfather of Christina Foran (Barry Tobin), Emily Freeman & Alexandra Foran. Beloved brother of Vincenza Pilot (Rinaldo) and loving Zio to Anna Melfi (Nick), Joanne Girardi (Valerio), Mark, Daniel, Julia, Alyssa and Matthew. Thank you to the staff at Southlake Regional Health Centre for your exceptional care and compassion (Cardiac and ICU). Also, a thank you to Laurie and the staff at Aurora Resthaven Nursing Home, where Luigi received wonderful care and physiotherapy while recovering from a broken elbow this past summer.

Luigi was born on June 27, 1935 in Valvasone, Pordenone, Italy. He had many stories about growing up during very difficult times but there were many loving memories of his grandparents, mother and sister and the adventures they lived day to day. He came with his family to Canada in the early 1950's. Living in the St. Clair and Caledonia area, he met Christel at a dance in the Spring of 1957 and they married on November 28, 1959 in Toronto, Ontario. Luigi learned to become a machinist during his early years in Canada and worked in this profession for nearly 50 years. It was a rare event that he ever missed a day of work. Luigi finished his career working at Micro Machine and Tool Company (28+ years). With so many years there, he had lots of stories and fond memories. Stories of the different jobs and experiences with his coworkers were frequently shared with us. In the early 80's, he and Christel built their dream home and moved from Downsview to Schomberg, Ontario where Luigi fulfilled his dream of being a farmer. He took great pride in his vegetable garden and the animals he raised there. With the help of his sister, brother-in-law and family, the small hobby farm produced vast amounts of vegetables for family, friends, neighbours and whomever else we could share the surplus with. He loved poetry and art. He loved “coffee break” time and lemon meringue pie. He loved to tinker in his garage and had great passion for his soccer and hockey games and the Italian TV Channel. He had a sense of mischief that will be fondly remembered. Over the last four years of his life, he encountered many challenges with his health but he was determined to live life on his terms and he fought a very brave fight. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by many.

Friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home 2035 Weston Road (north of Lawrence Ave) Weston, on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8pm. A service will be held in the chapel on Monday October 16, 2017 at 11am. Interment to follow at Prospect Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to The Southlake Regional Health Care Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
