It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mutti, Lucia. A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend.
She passed away peacefully in her 97th year.
Born in Hannover, Germany she left her homeland and immigrated to Canada in 1957. She was the loving mother of Rodica, Beate and Michelle (Alex) and proud Oma of Madeline, Spencer, Garret and Liam. She is survived by her sister Christa Matz (nee Palte) and is predeceased by her brothers Karl-Heinz Palte and Walter Martin Fritz Palte.
Lucia lived her life without complaint, as a wonderful mother, a homemaker, a trusted friend and as a dedicated, hard working employee.
Our mutti and Oma kept an immaculate house and loved to cook and bake. She very generously loved to share her gastronomic delights with everyone, much to the chagrin of many a waistline. Lucia was a brunch going, high tea sipping, chocolate, coffee and torte aficionado, who was always well coiffed and never missed her weekly visit to the hair salon.
But most of all, she loved her family deeply and selflessly. She instilled in us many values and as the oldest living matriarch of her entire family both here in Canada and in Germany, she had an incredible amount of wisdom to share. We are so blessed that she did.
She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
There will be no service or funeral in these unusual times. Instead we ask that in lieu of flowers you may wish to make a donation to your favourite charity. However, more aptly, we might suggest that you sit down and treat yourself to a warm beverage and a delectable, sweet confection and celebrate both her life and life itself with each mouth watering bite.
