Lorenzo Gottardo
Lorenzo was born in a small town in Friuli, Italy on October 1, 1939. He was the 6th of 8 children born to Aldo and Maria. He immigrated to Canada in 1958,where he worked as a bricklayer and eventually branched off into developing commercia & industrial properties. In 1968 he gave his heart to his wife Gabriella and together they raised three loving children,Flavia (Carlo), Denise, and Michael (Sheyla). He adored his seven grandchildren, Robert, Serena; Giulio, Stefano, Gianluca; Valerie and Melissa.
His wife, children and grandchildren gave him immense joy and comfort. He was very proud of his business endeavours and accomplishments. Lorenzo was happy at his farm in Caledon where he spent many memorable hours with his family and friends. He loved his horses, lamas and other animals, even the cow that decided to go for a moonlight swim in the pool. Lorenzo also loved to escape to sunny destinations during the winter, but his heart would always bring him back to his Furlan roots to spend time with family and friends.
One of his fondest memories was celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary with his family on an unforgettable Alaskan cruise in 2018.Lorenzo was also blessed to celebrate his 80th birthday at his favorite winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake with his family. He was so ecstatic on how the day turned out and boasted that he planned everything himself, so we decided to let him take all the credit. He truly enjoyed having a glass of wine or a shot of grappa with his friends, and never missed an opportunity to tell a story or a joke which made people laugh, even if he missed the punchline and they had heard it before.
Lorenzo was well respected and admired by all who knew him. He touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed by his immediate and extended family and his wonderful friends. After his twenty-four year struggle with heart and stroke disease, on April 25, 2020 Lorenzo died of a heart attack in the arms of his wife, with his children by his side.
