Linda Lauge

LAUGE, Linda Marie (nee Smale) - Early in the morning of July 8th, 2009, Linda passed away in the Palliative Care Unit of Brampton Civic Hospital after a prolonged bout with metastasized lung cancer. With her at the time were her husband Rai (39 wonderful years), her mother Millie Smale, her brother Gary, and Rai's sister Gunta Lauge Matisons. In addition to these folks, Linda is survived by a vast network of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and two god-children, Derek Steinbach and Natalie Senst. Linda was born in Petrolia, Ontario, grew up in Sarnia, and was a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (McGill). She specialized in ICU for the majority of her work life, and was highly respected in every hospital in which she worked. There were many, ranging from Lakeshore General in Pointe Claire, P.Q., to University Hospital in London, to William Osler Health Centre (Brampton), as she followed her corporate gypsy husband for the first 25 years of their marriage. Residing in Brampton for the last 15 years, the Lauges were active members of the Brampton Golf Club, where Linda one-upped Rai by winning the Ladies' Class A Club Championship in 2007. Linda was a quiet, strong person with a beautiful laugh and subtle, incisive sense of humour - beloved by all who grew to know her. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 14th at Ward Funeral Home, "Brampton Chapel" 52 Main Street South, Brampton. Following her interment at Park Lawn Cemetery, 2845 Bloor Street West, Toronto, all friends and family are invited to a celebration of Linda's life from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Brampton Golf Club, 7700 Kennedy Road, Brampton. Visitation at the funeral home will occur the previous day, Monday, July 13th from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, we suggest contributions to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation or William Osler Health Centre.
