PIKE, Leonard George (88)- Peacefully went to be with his Lord at Roberta Place, Barrie on Friday, August 28th, 2009. George, dearly beloved husband of the late Edna May (Parrish)who passed away in 1995. Beloved father of Carolyn Joyce (Gordon Morse), Marilyn June (Allan Hibbard), Donna May (Robert Duguid), Ronald George (Sandra), Kenneth Gordon (Irena), and the late Steven Bruce who passed away in 1990 (Gloria). Loving Poppy of 11 grandchildren (Margaret, Janet, Jolene, Melanie (predeceased - 1997), Bruce, Christopher H., Christopher P., Leanne, Cameron, Charlene, and Daniel) and 9 great-grandchildren (Taylor, Thomas, Jacob, Megan, Noah, Victoria, Jessica, Aleysia, and Jaden). Dear brother of Herbert and Russell. Predeceased by his sister Elizabeth and brothers James and John. George was a World War II Veteran, who served overseas with both the Royal Canadian Army Service Corp. and The Queens Own Rifles. He was also a member in good standing of The Royal Canadian Legion, Colonel J.E.L. Streight Branch 210, Etobicoke.
Visitation will be held at the Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Rd. (north of Lawrence Ave.), Weston on Tuesday, September 1, from 7-9 p.m.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, September 2, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel, with a reception to follow at The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 210.
Cremation has taken place and the ashes will be interred at Glendale Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
