It is with profound sadness that the family of Lelia Teresa Modafferi announces her passing on May 30, 2023. She passed peacefully with her husband by her side at Mackenzie Health Centers Palliative Care Unit.

Lelia Teresa Modafferi (née Fileni) was the beloved wife of Cosimo for 55 years. A devoted and loving mother to Gilda (Dino), Melissa (Chuck) and was predeceased by her daughter, Gloria. Loving grandmother to Vanessa (Eric), Alyssa (Nathan), Andrew, Nicholas, Vivian & Claire. Proud great grandmother of Logan, Cameron & Aurelie. She will also be lovingly remembered by Louise & Bobby as well as her extended family and friends. Lelia took great pleasure in her extended travels, especially to her beloved Sarasota home on Lido Key and her sojourns to her beloved Santo Stefano di Sessanio in L’Aquila, Abruzzo. As the family matriarch, cooking and family dinners were especially important as it brought her family together and most left with care packages.

Lelia worked with children as a special education teacher in York Region. She was devoted to her students and touched countless lives in her career as an educator and an administrative assistant.

Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home (4671 Hwy 7, Woodbridge) on Friday, June 2, 2023, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Funeral service in the Ward Chapel on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 11 o’clock. Following her wishes, burial will take place in Montreal at a later date.
