It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leah Kathryn Henderson (nee Hyde), beloved sister, mother, grandmother on February 25, 2018 in her 91st year. Leah died peacefully surrounded by her family. Leah was born in Buffalo, New York on July 4, 1927 to Raymond Milton Hyde and Elizabeth J. (Neiland) Hyde.
Leah was raised in Port Colborne, Ontario and attended Port Colborne High School. During her high school years, Leah was an outstanding athlete competing in track and basketball and also played tennis and softball in the summers. After graduation from high school, Leah attended Teachers College in Hamilton. Her first teaching position took her to Wainfleet, Ontario where she taught in a one room schoolhouse. After leaving Wainfleet, she taught in Niagara Falls, Mimico and in Port Credit. It was while in Niagara Falls that she met her husband, Patrick Henderson. They went on to have five children together and lived in Mississauga for over 40 years before retiring in Oakville.
Leah is survived by her daughters, Linda, Sharon and Maureen (Sioui) and son-in-law, Barry Wilcox. Grandchildren, Andrew, Sean, Meghan, Michelle, Daniel, Ellen, Patrick, Jack. Brother, William Hyde and sister-in-law Clarie (Brouillette). Leah was predeceased by her husband Patrick (2008), daughter Patricia (2016), son Raymond (1974), brother, Raymond Milton Hyde (2003), sister-in-law Jean (Bradford) (2007) and stepfather William J. Sheppard (1955).
Visitation will be Tuesday February 27 from 5:00 pm -8:00 pm at the Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville, Ontario. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday February 28 at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 47 Reynolds Street, Oakville, Ontario at 11:00 am.
