REGAN, Lawrence David
October 25, 1931 - July 26, 2017
It is with great sadness that his family announces the passing of the beloved husband of the late Geraldine Marie Regan. Loving father of Tim (Peggy), Dave, Pat, Debbie, Paul (Laurie), Kelly and the late Patricia Marie. Proud Papa of Madison (Mike), Brooklyn, Tyler, (Lauren) and Taylor and great grandchild Memphis.
He was born in Stratford, Ontario and educated at St. Michael's College. Owned and operated a successful aggregate, general contracting and haulage business for 40 years. Owned and operated a Thoroughbred breeding and training farm in Caledon and had been an active owner and breeder since 1951. Was President of the HBPA (Horesemen's Benevolent Protective Association) Ontario for 27 years and President of HBPA Canada 12 years.
A few of his many accomplishments:
Jockey Club of Canada recipient of the Man of the Year Award in 1989. Inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 1989. Past director of the E.P. Taylor Research Fund, Avelino Gomez Foundation, CTHS and Ontario Racing Commission Advisory Board. Owner of stake horses Dawes Road, Sgt. Hunt, Lansing Cutoff, Trusty Forester, Admiral Twit and record setting Fly Ash. Most accomplished 3rd place finish in the most prestigious race in the country, 2004 Queens Plate - Will He Crow. Junior B Hockey coach and Detroit Red Wing Hockey Scout. A man driven by integrity and dedication to his family, his religion, his work and race hobby.
