MISSISSAUGA-Kyriakoula (Koulitsa) Stephens, 76, died August 22, 2017, at Sheridan Villa nursing home after an extended illness. She was born October 23, 1940, in Athens, Greece to Georgios Hadjigeoriou and Vassos (Tsambas). Her father died during the war when she was only 2 years old.
She met her husband, Peter Stephens, while she was visiting her aunt Natassa and her husband Georgios Micheledes, on the island of Cyprus. They were married in Beirut, Lebanon on December 23, 1961.
Peter’s work took the couple to many countries over the years until they decided to settle permanently in Canada.
Koulitsa was fun-loving and childlike, always looking to meet new people and see new things. She was able to see a great part of the world through her husband’s job postings. They always went back to visit Greece and also enjoyed visiting Hawaii, as well as Japan, to see their son, Grant, and daughter-in-law Theresa.
She is survived by twin sons, Grant (Theresa) and Mark (Stella); two grandchildren, Christina and Peter. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Stephens, February 11, 2014. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, including her family in Greece. Special thanks to Lola, one of the many nurses who took very good care of Koulitsa at Sheridan Villa.
