After a brief illness, with her family at her side, Klara Kordas passed away peacefully at Humber River Hospital on Saturday, March 25, 2017.
Klara was born on June 20, 1923 in Oberschopfheim, Germany the eldest daughter of Otto and Maria Beiser. She is predeceased by her parents and brother, Eugene and survived by her sister Gertrud Wetterer (Germany) and sister-in-law Annalise Beiser (Germany).
She married Jan (John) Kordas on February 28, 1946 who passed away on June 2, 2006 after 60 years together.
Following her husband, John, who had immigrated to Canada one year prior, Klara, with her daughters Christa and Eugenia left Germany and arrived at Pier 21 in Halifax in January 1951.
After a short time in Dalkeith, ON, the family moved to Weston where Klara and John lived the rest of their lives.
Klara worked at the Weston Golf and Country Club, in food services, and remained a valued employee there for over thirty years until her retirement.
The Kordas family were members of St. John the Evangelist Church in Weston since 1952 and in 1957 the family became five when Barbara Ann was born at Humber Memorial Hospital.
The C.W.L. was an important part of Klara’s life where she formed many close and long lasting friendships. She was an excellent cook and we all loved her German Apple Cake which was also a C.W.L. bazaar favourite.
Klara enjoyed gardening and gentle exercising like walking and Tai-Chi which contributed to her longevity. She shared fruit and vegetables from her garden with many including the local food bank.
Throughout her long life, Klara tirelessly supported both family and friends. She will be remembered for her strong faith and generous spirit.
