Sheppard - Kenneth
April 17th, 1960 to July 20th, 2010 Age: 50
Suddenly, without warning while enjoying an annual vacation in Algonquin Park with his family and friends, Kenneth Wilfred Sheppard was taken from us much too soon. Loving and devoted husband of Catherine, and proud father and hero of Joshua and Steven. Cherished son of Ann and Wilfred Sheppard. Beloved brother of Paul (Kira), Brian (Harriet) and sister Brenda (Brock). Brother in law of Frank and Dale Andrews. Uncle Kenny to Lindsay, Katie, Jon, Jamie, Jake, Amie, Julie, Robert, Jessica, Coby and Karina. Great uncle to Payton and William.
Ken was a lover of the great outdoors, enthusiastic golfer, avid bridge, poker and guitar player.
Ken touched many lives and was very proud of, as all of us were, his contribution to public service by being a Toronto Firefighter for over 25 years. He started with TFD, January 1, 1985, trained at Station 20 and was then posted to 31 Aerial. Later transferred to 14 Pumper where he remained for 20 years which is now Station 345. He was promoted to the position of Captain on February 8, 2010 and was assigned to Station 341. Ken was known as “a firefighter’s, firefighter.” Through his career he received two Station Citations and a William Osler Award. He loved his job and the men and women he lived and worked with and they are truly a “brotherhood”. The entire Sheppard family would like to express our gratitude to the Toronto Fire Services for all their love and support through this tragedy. Our Ken was an amazing man, a rock in times in crisis, a role model, and someone who’s shoes can never be filled but will forever remain a part of all of us.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Hospital for Sick Children Burn Unit may be made in his name.
Family and Friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home, 52 Main Street South, (Hwy #10), Brampton on Saturday July 24, 2010 from 7-9 and Sunday July 25th 2-4 and 7-9pm.
